All year round Fishing Vacations

There is great trout fishing year round in New Zealand's outstanding rivers and lakes. Summer river fly fishing October-May is available throughout both islands. In winter, you’ll find the world’s best fresh water rainbow trout runs in the central North Island. Boat fishing is available throughout the year in Rotorua, Taupo and some South Island lakes.

Saltwater Fishing

Zane Grey made the Bay of Islands world famous in 1929 for it’s enormous marlin. The reputation continues today. The Lodges of New Zealand provide access to the best charter boats for deep sea fishing; plus light tackle fishing for fighting kingfish and kahawai.

Good Trout fishing begins in Southland

Anglers are gearing up for a good trout fishing season in the tributary rivers of Southland’s major lakes. These opened November 1st. Other Southland rivers opened October 1st. Te Anau Fish and Game officer Bill Jarvie said large numbers of trout, especially rainbow trout, were expected. Western tributaries were expected to have larger than normal trout. This was a result of trout in these areas being more mature and the abundance of better quality food for the fish, such as large insects and mice.

Blanket Bay - Heli-fishing... Allow us to plan and arrange helicopter fishing trips, where we can take you to stretches of water possibly not fished this season by any other anglers, where you will stalk wild rainbow and brown trout. Inaccessible to vehicles, and accessed by foot only over great time and difficulty. Helicopter access makes the most of these virtually untouched waters.

The Tuki Tuki and Tutaekuri rivers are rated as some of the best all year-round rivers, and provides some of the most exciting and rewarding fishing experiences, a challenge to any angler.
Set on the banks of the famous Tongariro River and in easy reach of other outstanding trout rivers, lakes and tributaries in the Taupo region, River Birches provides the perfect location for your fly fishing adventure. Access to professional guides is easily arranged and fly fishing gear is available at the lodge if required. If you’d like to fish near River Birches, you can catch world-class trout just 50 metres from the lodge!
Hawke’s Bay offers a wide range of fishing opportunities. The bay's major rivers, the Mohaka, Tutkuir, Ngaruroro, Waipawa and Tukituki, are populated with wild brown and rainbow trout. An experienced local guide with a four wheel drive vehicle will pick you up at the Lodge and take you to one of more than 20 different rivers or lakes. Alternatively, we can arrange a true wilderness fishing experience utilizing a helicopter, to take you to remote rivers and streams that abound with trout. The fly fishing trip will be tailored to your individual needs and skill level, giving you access to the finest fishing New Zealand has to offer.

Whare Kea is ideally located near the famous rivers, streams and lakes of Otago and Southland where fishing for either trout or salmon is a favourite past-time. The season runs from October through to May with the best months from October till March. Local guides are necessary and remote locations require the use of the helicopter.
Lake Taupo Lodge & Lake and River fishing.. The first trout were liberated into the waters of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake, in 1887. They were the Californian Brown Trout and the Californian Rainbow Trout. There is an excellent chance of catching late and early run rainbows and large browns, and it's quite likely you could have a whole day of fishing without seeing another angler.
